joey's weekly tangle challenge #189

Good day!
I am so sorry that the challenge is up late today!  I had a very busy weekend with my son's soccer game, preparing for the art show and turning another year older(!)
The weather here was also gorgeous so I suppose I had other things on my mind, so sorry!
I saw this odd boat in the bay the other day and found that it was an icebreaker on a cross country tour!?  Only in Canada!
My family and friends spoiled me rotten on my birthday!  I have come to the age of not wanting more 'stuff' but my family knows what my 'needs' are!  I have enough dark organic chocolate to last me a while!  ha ha!  I will also be replacing my pair of 'get down booties' so I am ready for the chilly days ahead!  They are the best slippers ever!

I continue to use up my stash of supplies for an upcoming Winter Art Show.
I will share more photos soon!

So let's get on to the weekly challenge!

We are doing a series of 3D strings so today's string is a cylinder like a tin can.

The tangle I have chosen for you to use is

Who doesn't love this tangle?!

Let's see what you can do with it today!
(sorry that pun was totally unintentional!)

joey's weekly tangle challenge #188

Today we are continuing with our
3D string series.

Each week I will give you a string and one tangle that you must use.
The rest is up to you!

Here is today's string and we are going to use the tangle

Because this string has only 2 sides
I am challenging you
to not just fill in the two sides with tangles.
Let's get creative!

weekly challenges

Isn't it funny how some people love one challenge and others, not so much?
I have a little confession about the last challenge.... I am so glad that it's over!
It was my own fault, I shouldn't have started with so much saturated colour, it was a lot of work and I began to dread having to do it.

This week's challenge was much quicker to complete and I stuck with black and white with a bit of shading.
The cube is the most basic shape in the series.  When I finished mine I kinda went well that was ok.  I'll call this one a 'warm up' and hope that the rest of the 3D strings are more fun to play around with.
I think the biggest challenge for this series for me will be to not just fill in the sides with a tangle (like I have done this week!).  I need to stretch it past the string, perhaps lose the string or branch off from it?  Not sure what will happen!

I have complained about this before but photographing my tiles is really difficult this time of year with our skies being so grey.  If you live in a coastal rainforest you know what I am talking about!  Compared to the rest of Canada our climate is very mild, we get very little snow here at sea level but we do get rain and grey skies from basically Oct to May which means unless you have a whiz-bang camera and professional photography training, your photos never come out true to colour.

Well that turned into a post full of whining, sorry about that, it's all good really! Autumn may just be my favourite season, preparing to hunker down for 'winter', making applesauce and beeswax candles, drawing under a cozy quilt with a cup of tea....
ya, it's all good!

joey's weekly tangle challenge #187

Welcome back!
Today we will begin a new kind of challenge series
that I hope that you will enjoy.  I'm going to call it

"The 3D string series"

I have drawn up 7 strings of 3D shapes.
Each week I will give you a different string and one tangle that you
 must include in the challenge.

Today's 3D shape is a square box
and we will be using the tangle

I hope that you enjoy this series!

Here is my #9

And the completed piece.

Do any of you have plans for what you will do with your finished piece?

travelling tangles

 (July swap partner Debra H)

I really enjoy participating in Stephanie Jennifer's Travelling Tangles swap!  However, a few months ago I got terribly behind.  Being home sick last week gave me the opportunity to pull them out and get down to work!  I was fuzzy and spacey and slightly seeing double ;o) but I did my best and completed several tiles dating back to July.   Here are some photos of the awesome tiles that I received in the mail, and how I finished them.

(July swap partner Linda L)

For those of you not familiar with the Travelling Tangles swap it is organized by the lovely Stephanie who lives in Singapore.  She collects our info, matches us up with partners all over the world and then we swap a started tile with them.  When we have completed the tile we post a pic onto the Travelling Tangle's Facebook page.  I actually rejoined Facebook just to participate in the swaps! ;o)

(August swap partner Kristi B)

My first "finish my tile challenge" was born because at the time I was too timid to join the group.  I am SO glad that I eventually jumped in to join the fun!

What I really like is that receiving someone else's start sometimes takes you out of your comfort zone so you are forced to try something new!

Enjoy your day, hope it is creative!
